EH MATTERS Fellows begin the internships with Environmental Health faculty

As the 2020-2021 academic year continued with remote learning for USC students, this Spring a group of seven undergraduates, the first cohort of the EH MATTERS (Environmental Health MethodologicAl, Training, and Teaching EnterpRiSe) program, began their journey as EH MATTERS fellows. These 7 students come from a variety of disciplines and are seeking to further their environmental health and justice knowledge and experiences as they intern with our Environmental Health Faculty members. Congratulations to our fellows as they near the completion of their first semester in the program and embark on a more intensive summer program experience.

These fellows are actively working on a broad range of issues including: air pollution, goods movement, maternal environmental health disparities, battery smelters and toxic metals, urban oil drilling, environmental health literacy, Covid-19 and air pollution, and exposure science.

EH MATTERS, a 2 year community-engaged environmental health research program, will expand students’ understanding of fundamental concepts in environmental health, exposure, susceptibility, risk, and health disparities. This formal training will provide a basis for a firm academic understanding of community environmental health disparity issues and firsthand experiences that look at environmental health through the lens of environmental justice.

EH MATTERS is funded by NIEHS Grant #R25ES031867
