Areas of research:
- Climate change and health
- Effects of extreme heat and wildfire smoke on mortality and childhood mental health
- How to reduce the carbon footprint of health care, which accounts for approximately 10% of all U.S. CO2 emissions, in pilot projects in Keck and USC as laboratories for new approaches
- Extreme weather events, migration, human rights, and mental health in Mesoamerica
- Better tools for science research translation – press coverage, commentaries, “white papers” and policy briefs, op-eds, marketing, others
- Effects of air pollution on neurodevelopment, including autism and childhood depression
- Effects of PFAS and other “forever chemicals” on fatty liver and diabetes
EH MATTERS Internship Description:
The internship provides opportunities to develop skills in science communication and for hands-on research on selected topics in climate change and health as part of initiatives of EH Centers. Potential for engagement in research on mental health and effects of “forever chemicals.”
